Orange brownies

Serves 8-12. Preparation time 20 minutes. Cooking time 20 minutes.

You don't even need a recipe for this kids' camping dessert

• Pack a box of chocolate brownie mix, a bag of oranges and lots of foil. Read the instructions on the box and make sure you also pack the eggs, milk or butter that the recipe requires.

• To keep the kids busy, slice oranges in half and get them to scoop out the flesh with a spoon, taking care to scrape the halves clean but not break the peel.

• One box of mix will make a lot of batter, so it's a good idea to make only half of the mix. Prepare the batter according to the packet instructions and fill the hollowed out orange halves with it. Put the other half on top like a lid and wrap tightly in 3 layers of foil.

• Put the parcels in very hot embers - it's fine if there are still flames, the peel will protect the brownie. Turn every 2 minutes or so and check after 10 minutes. (Depending on the size of the oranges and the heat, it will take between 10 and 20 minutes to cook through.)

• The brownie will be hot and spongy with a hint of orange flavour.
